Hononegah High school has an impressive presence and has been ranked by the Chicago Sun-Times as one of the best high schools in the state of Illinois. The school has had recent additions over the past decade, including a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center (known to locals as the PAC), and an athletic practice dome, the first of its kind in the state for a high school. The Hononegah school district is known for receiving many academic awards including being listed in the top 40 schools in the state of Illinois, for the 2005-2006 school year. Hononegah football and basketball games are major draws for spectators in the north Winnebago area, often bringing in thousands of spectators to cheer on the Indians, who are named for Hononegah, the wife of Stephen Mack. |
